History
A brief history of the fMRIF.
The FMRIF first came into operation in September of 1999 with the first acquisition of human EPI images on the GE 3T94. The system was delivered in June, 1999 and began routine research operation in January of 2001 with a small collection of 6-8 investigators. In November of 2001 a second GE 3T94 was delivered. It started operation in August of 2002. A4.7T vertical-bore scanner is presently being installed to serve the needs of the primate research community in NIMH, NINDS, and NEI. The staff of the core facility has grown to meet the demands of the research community. FMRIF currently has a total of 9 full time scientists and staff who provide services including scanner operation and instruction, subject interface device development and maintenance, data transfer and storage infrastructure, and multiple web-based services. The FMRIF continues to expand. Within the next year, a third human scanner will be purchased, and a 1.5T human scanner will be obtained from the NMR Facility (NMRF). Off hour scanning staff are also being hired to more efficiently make use of available scanner time.

The staff of the core facility has grown to meet the demands of the research community from an inital level of 3 core scientist to 9 full time scientists and staff members.
